65. Pests in the Greenhouse
There are many pests that will find their way into your greenhouse. Many of these pests can fly in, crawl in or are carried in on you and on your plants. So, how will you get rid nasty bugs in your greenhouse? First you have to learn which bugs hurt and which bugs can be beneficial to your plants.
If you have bugs on your plants you can simply pick them off and save money – or you can get pest traps and powers that can chase the pests away. Sometimes pests can even be good in your greenhouse!
If you are having a problem with aphids in your greenhouse, you can use a couple of thousand of ladybugs to eat this little pest. But you should also know that if you have pitcher plants, the plants will eat them so will still have aphids running wild in the greenhouse. Simply removing the particular plants that like lady bugs, will allow the lady bugs to control the aphids, and then when you bring the lady bugs loving plants back into the greenhouse, you can control the lady bugs! Sounds easy because it is easy. Just learning the chain of command in the insect world can help you save money and time in controlling pests in the greenhouse.
Another method that you might not have thought about in controlling pests in your greenhouse is that you shouldn’t accept plants from friends, neighbors or from people who just them off, because you don’t know where they have been. If it is the middle of summer and you have the time to repot the plant, wash the roots and wash the plant down with soap and water mixture, you could use the plant in your gardening collection.
If you have water in the greenhouse, or if you have access to take the plant to another location outside of the greenhouse, you can soak a plant in water for up to two days and you can force the pests from the plant entirely. You can use this method to clean out bugs when you are have time to clean out the greenhouse in between seasons and when you have just a few plants left in the greenhouse.
