75. Summer Cooling
Enjoying the summer sun is a wonderful delight after the long winter months. The only warmth and growth you have been seeing in the growth of the plants in the greenhouse. So what will you do when the heat is turned up, and the greenhouse gets hotter and hotter inside those walls?
You can still use your greenhouse during the summer months; no matter how hot is does get outside. It is my recommendation that during the summer months you implement various cooling and ventilation systems to keep your greenhouse cool and crisp for the controlled environment that you are searching for to grow the best plants.
Your greenhouse will need proper ventilation. Your greenhouse kits does come with one, two, or four vents, and you can add more for the summer months if you want to place them in the side walls of the greenhouse. Vent kits are available to purchase separately.
You can place a fan by the existing vents you have, and push the hot air out of your greenhouse, for a quick and inexpensive solution to cooling in the greenhouse. You can also leave your door open and put a larger fan facing out when you feel appropriate. Some greenhouse owners in largely populated areas have a more difficult time with this because of vandals or thieves, but there are additional solutions available to this as well which is covered in another article.
When you find that the long hot days of summer are taking a toll on your plants in the greenhouse, use a shade cloth. You can purchase a shade cloth that is made just for your sized greenhouse and it is easily placed on top of the greenhouse to cut the sunís heat in the greenhouse while still letting the rays of light through.
